MyHealthPal is a health app that addresses an important issue that is often overlooked in the mobile health industry—the management of long-term conditions and chronic illness. As a personal healthcare initiative, MyHealthPal is effective in the management of long term conditions and chronic illnesses by enabling patients, physicians and caretakers, and medical staff to participate in various MyHealthPal Care circles. Created to encompass a variety of conditions, MyHealthPal has a dedicated app as it relates to a specific illness. For example, someone who might have Parkinson’s Disease has the ability to access information regarding patient and carer welfare in a health community that emphasizes awareness, sharing of data, and community support. As a healthcare management tool, MyHealthPal is one of the first mobile health apps to focus on better long-term disease management and could certainly be an indication of future mobile apps to come. Additionally, this concept, which helps empower people through increasing their self-awareness, understanding and analysis of conditions, could potentially lower their healthcare costs through better preventative care methods.
