Word of the week: AliveCor

By Word of the Week on February 15th, 2013

Health IT’s capabilities and innovations continue to enable better patient care through mHealth with the new device from AliveCor,  an electrocardiogram heart monitoring device that can be strapped onto a smart phone and perform a cardiogram. The data from AliveCor is transmitted wirelessly to the smart phone and is then analyzed by an app called AliveECG where it is stored on the company cloud; the data can be accessed at AliveCor.com and sent to a cardiologist. The FDA’s recent approval of AliveCor is a major milestone in mobile health’s aspirations, especially since the FDA’s ability to approve mHealth devices typically lags behind. Hopefully, with the approval of AliveCor, many more mHealth device approvals will follow in the future and continue to allow for better patient engagement and delivery of telehealth services.
