Vanilla: We’ve previously discussed how Ning lets users create their own fully functional social network and how Twingr lets users build a private microblogging platform with all the functionalities of Twitter. Along these same lines is Vanilla, a site that allows users to develop a forum site for any topic they so choose. Individuals can create a forum about a subject of their choosing to discuss with friends, or businesses can use the site as a place for customers and fans to interact with one another and provide feedback to the company. Much like a Facebook page, this is a great tool that a company can use for two-way communication with their target audience. Vanilla gives users the ability to customize the appearance of the forum by choosing a theme and uploading a personal logo, and also allows them to upload files to posts, embed the forum on another site or blog, and log in with an already existing Facebook, Twitter, Google or OpenID account.
