Troll: Social media and the Internet have
transformed the meanings of some seemingly ordinary words into something completely new. One of the more interesting cases of this is with the word troll. When thinking of the terms troll or trolling, most people imagine a mythical creature under a bridge or a relaxing morning fishing on the lake. But on the Web, a troll is someone who purposely posts something off-topic or inflammatory to an online community in order to provoke an emotional response. These trolls are generally easy to spot, but when done subtly, trolling can create some pretty heated exchanges. Trolling is often perpetrated for entertainment, but the people who react to it are certainly not amused. As the term continues to evolve, we see troll or trolling being used to describe scenarios taking place away from the online world.
