Deals: Announced this week, Deals is Facebook’s answer to group buying startups like Groupon and LivingSocial. A few months ago, Facebook integrated a deals function into their Places app on mobile phones that gave users who checked in at businesses access to special deals, but the new Deals is a full-blown group buying app with a social twist. Facebook’s goal is to not only offer discounts, but to offer experiences that can be enjoyed with friends. It remains to be seen whether Deals will unseat Groupon and LivingSocial, companies that have each developed significant brand equity in this unique space.
