Word of the Week: Social Television

Social Television: Social TV, simply put, is the combination of watching television while simultaneously engaging in conversations via social media. Tweeting or Facebooking about the shows we are watching was a trend on the rise during 2011 and is expected to continue to thrive as we move into 2012. Twitter has already begun to leverage this trend in several ways. The microblogging network teamed up with the new show X Factor to implement live social voting during the show, and they have also published a guide on best practices for integrating TV with social media. We’ve also seen an increase in social check-ins – where a user checks in to watching a TV show, as opposed to arriving at a physical location – thanks to new social TV apps, which have been dubbed “second screen apps.” Other companies are cutting out the middle man completely, including Hulu, which is offering its Hulu Plus service as an iPad app.

Word of the Week: Revolution Health

Revolution Health: Revolution Health is another great resource for e-patients wanting to learn more about the health-related issues affecting them and their loved ones. The site features an A-Z database of health conditions, a guide full of tips for healthy living, which include everything ranging from fitness to natural health to relationships and life balance, and a comprehensive list of drugs and treatments. The site also includes a search tool for users to find doctors, dentists and hospitals based on location and specialty. The other key feature of Revolution Health is the social network it provides, which allows users to have a free public profile, participate in forum discussions, join groups, and even maintain their own blog.

Word of the Week: Buffer

Buffer: Buffer is a Web-based Twitter app that combines all Twitter conveniences into one easy-to-use platform. Buffer’s primary feature is the ability to backlog tweets, so that users don’t inundate their followers with multiple tweets back to back. The scheduling is completely customizable, and as long as there are tweets in the buffer, your feed will never be inactive. For the surfer who doesn’t want to go back and forth between Twitter and the pages they read, Buffer offers a bookmarklet that allows for tweet creation right from the site currently being viewed. A short link is generated, and the user has the option to add it to his buffer or tweet it immediately. Users can check their buffer at any point in time and edit the release schedule of their tweets. For those interested in tracking and analytics, Buffer is the perfect option. For every tweet sent out through this tool, users can track the number of clickthroughs, the number of retweets, and total impressions that each tweet got through those retweets.

CSR—Another important acronym in the healthcare industry

With ACOs, MU, EHRs and ICD-10 on your mind, you may have overlooked this one…

CSR-GlobeCorporate Social Responsibly (CSR), sometimes referred to as social mission, simply refers to the strategic outreach your organization can take part in to positively affect the community. This outreach can include company-sponsored programs, philanthropic services, pro-bono support or employee volunteerism. It has the ability to not only help others, but can also boost corporate image, employee morale and make a difference in your bottom line.

Most healthcare organizations have some form of “giving initiative” where a check is written and money is donated at the same time every year. Studies reveal that this is not enough to influence business or purchasing decisions. For example, a recent survey conducted by Penn Schoen Berland revealed that 88 percent of respondents thought CSR was most important in the healthcare industry, but as a whole the industry scored poorly with only a 35 percent CSR performance level. Public relations – more than just external relations

Your most important audience is your employees…are you paying attention?

Your company is jumping on the social media bandwagon. You are pushing messages out on Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, online blogs and even having your CEO checking in on Foursquare. All of your PR and Marketing 2.0 efforts are covered, right?

Wrong.

In the new age of social media marketing efforts, companies can become inundated with these outlets and pushing messages out, forgetting about their greatest asset within, the employees.

With just a few simple tweaks, your company can ensure that the information employees receive is from you and not their RSS feeds.
